Upper Delaware Bay Report

Timmy T

With the close of a great flounder season the fishermen (and women) are looking for something to catch.  In the upper portion of the Delaware Bay according to Joe at Rusty Joe’s in Money Island they are still catching some weakfish, tog, striped bass and even an occasional puppy drum along with flounder that are being thrown back.

Cooler temperatures will prevail soon and everyone will switch to stripers exclusively.  Make sure that if you go you get some fresh bunker for these trips.  The striped bass can be a finicky eater at times and not hit on a frozen or a few day old bait.  The reports are coming in that they are in the area but on the smaller side with a few keepers here and there.  I know we all have our honey hole, but think outside the box.  Striped bass follow the bait, that means that at times you can pick them inside by the mouths of creeks and rivers.  If the weather is getting bad try it inside for a while, look for that little eddie or small structure that might just hold a big one.

Remeber NJ Fish and Game is out and on the aggressive side.  They have been working undercover and watching the surf and jettie fishing for violations.  It is just not worth the aggravation or the fines.
