Delaware Bay Fishing out of Rusty Joe’s

Timmy T

Saturday June 13, 2009

We woke up at 7AM, and the water was flat.    A quick stop at Rusty Joe’s and we had minnows and ice.  If you need anything I have to say it is nice again to be able to stop there and get what you need.  We got to the boat only to have to clean out two purple martin nests(no eggs).  Once we got situated it was smooth sailing.

By the time we were ready and heading out toward the old house it was 9:30.  The Miss Ann was running well and we were on a drift by 10.    We stopped in about 18 feet of water and started a drift just inside and north of the old house.  The tide was running very slow on the upswing, we were using about two ounces, my wife with her new pink Ocean Girl rod and an Avet conventional lever drag reel was the fist one in the water.  It wasn’t soon after we started our drift I picked up a short flatty and got back in the water.  The picking was slow but steady.  We each pulled in three short flatties and ended up with three in the box for dinner.  The two were just over the limit at 19 inches with the wife winning the honors with a nice 22 incher.   Tommy T grabbed the other two and I was cursed with catching shorts all day, still a good day!

Donna says it was the rod and reel which she has named the “Pink Monster” but I think it was simply a matter of a good Captain getting her on the fish.  Either way after a four hour drift and running the minnow bucket empty we decided it was getting a little sloppy.  We headed for for barn.

We got back to Rusty Joes and there were two boats tied up with room for atleast four or five more.  We eased into the dock and Mikey was there to give us a hand with the gas.  At 2.79 a gallon it is surely not worth lugging a bunch of gas cans from Milleville to fill the tanks.  Again very nice to have there.

We were back at the house and on the deck by 2:30 with a beer in hand.  Dinner was even better.  Fresh fish on the grill!

Catch em up,

Fishing South florida on the Blue Heron @ J inlet!

Timmy T

Angie Stewart took her family fishing while they were visiting from Oklahoma.  The Blue Heron out of Jupiter Inlet was the choice for the day.    With beautiful skies and blue water the Captain put them on fish all day but on the last drift the seas were alive.  Angie pulled in these two nice fish, a King and a Cobia with two Bull Sharks circling.  What a day!
