Trout season opened April 11, 2009. The stocking is progressing. Make sure you check New Jersey’s Division of Fish and Game for the updates. The website is full of useful information.
Tommy T is still reporting a hot bite. The starboard motor has new thermostats and is running like new! The Dolphin were hitting hard yesterday. Dirk has changed his ticket twice, he says the bartenders are starting to recognize him and he is getting worried that he will stay too long!! As long as the weather is good and the fish are biting why leave?!?!
Captain Tom was out all day. They headed out early on flat water, blue skies and warm weather. Tom and Dirk were fishing today on Miss Behavin and Captain Donna put them on the fish. They caught a total of six sailfish today. At 240 feet of water there was a great color change. They set up with live baits and it didn’t take long. Tom and Dirk hooked up with a double and got both clean released. There were four more clean releases and they called it a day. That is what fishing in the keys is about! If you have never experienced it you need to get down there. With the amount of Captains for hire there if you can’t find a good captain to put you on fish you either weren’t trying or you got too drunk!
Captain Don on Carribean Soul was out today with Robbin and a stow away named Greg. They went beyond the Blue water trolling. They hooked up with some nice dolphin. Don reports that they caught 15 between 16 and 35 pounds. That will put dinner on the table, and fish in the freezer! The dolphin were caught on fresh bally hoo rigged up under multi-colored skirts with mono leaders.
Tomorrow the winds are supposed to blow. Tom has to meet with Mitch to see about getting the starboard engine fixed. Hopefully it will be fixed before it lays down again.
Greag and the Cape Horn did not want to be left out. Greg sent some nice pictures of fish that were caught on his boat. He had Donna and Chuck on the boat. He obviously had help from Donna and Chuck to catch the fish. All in all it was a hot week in the keys with fish being caught where ever lines were wet!
Catch em up,
Timmy T
Captian Tommy T reported today was nice outside the reef. He was trolling in about 300 feet of water and picking Dolphin all day. The ride out was a little sloppy but flattened out as the day went on. The fish are there when the weather will cooperate. Tom was out today with Dirk from New Jersey and it is good to see that Dirk can catch fish! Captain Tom also reports that Miss Behavin has three sails up with no problem. Miss Behavin was fishing with live baits and hooking up with no problem. On a low note the Tommy T had engine problems again on the starboard side. Captain Tom reports it is the same issue with all the plugs being fouled.
Tom will be fishing tomorrow on Miss Behavin with Dirk, Captain Donna and Chuck will hopefully put them on some more sailfish.
Catch em up!

The marina at Money Island was neglected for years as we all know. Rusty Joe’s Marina will be open with everything you need for the 2009 seaon. The new ower, Joe, is working hard to get it into a first class operation. Everytime I have been down there he is hard at work and I hate to bother him. The ramp will be new, gas and bait available, new or repaired docks and parking that you don’t have to walk around a trampoline. The Marina contains several areas along the crick to keep your boat. According to reports he will also have plenty of parking for trailers.
With all the traffic in the crick this year the State Police and USCG will be over in the area for sure. This year every boater must have the obligatory safety card. Either way the NEW Money Island Marina will be open and ready for business this season. By the way I hear that the bite for stripers in on. It is as you would expect, lots of shorts but a few nice ones here and there.
Good Luck Joe, I look forward to meeting you and having a gas dock/bait shop on the crick, to all who thought it was creek it is pronounced crick!
Catch em up,
Timmy T
