Looks like the weather is warming up. The little snow sqalls that we had this morning were Mother nature’s way of being funny. The sun should be shining all weekend with highs in the 60′s.
It is time to get that boat ready for the season. Cut the plastic, and get the wax and paint out. I recently used a wax that I was a breeze to put on and take off. It is called Woody Wax, I did 3 coats on the hull of a 28 foot boat in under 3 hours. It is a spray on, hence the 3 coats, and just wipe it off. The hull shines up nice and is protected. Woody Wax was designed by a boater so it works well. they have an application for hulls, decks and metal. Be prepared the wax is not cheap but it works. Check it out, you can buy it at most boat stores. You can also buy it from the website, www.woody-wax.com.
Captain Tommy T out of Big Pine Key reports that the weather has not cooperated at all this season. The wind has howled for weeks on end. But when he has managed to get out the bite has been hot. Kings were in for the tournament, Wahoo and Dolphin are still biting and Sails were a staple when you you get at them.
ATS reports in from Marathon that the Yellowtail bite is still strong. Reef fishing has been good all year with the winds. You can still get to the inside reefs and get some good fishing in.

Tommy T reported that while he was in Key West picking up a buddy at the airport his freinds both snuck out in a lull in the winds. Captain Don on Carribean Soul and Captain Donna on Miss Behavin’ both got outside to the blue water and managed to get some nice dolphin. The winds picked back up in the afternoon and just won’t cooperate. Captain Tom tried on April Fool’s Day and was turned back at the outer edge of Hawk’s Channel. He reports that he will get out either out back or out front one way or another. On a lighter note we need to hold a moment of silence as Captain Fitz from Key West (a Backwater Pirate Mate) sold his boat in preparation for his move. Sorry Fitz.
The fish are there when you can get to them, Dolphin and Wahoo bites are strong and the Tarpon are rolling in the back waters.
With the temperatures warming the waters will follow. What follows this is a Striped bass. They have made a historic comeback in the Delaware bay and the spring season while it is usually short up there is still a worthwhile and very good season.

Reports are coming in from up and down the bay of Striped Bass. Most are from the lower bay but they are there! The drum are also on the fringe. If you have the plastic on the boat, you may want to cut it off and get working. The weather this weekend is looking good for wax and paint. After that get the wrenches, change the plugs and run the engine (hook up a hose first). The weather is only going to get better! The time is right to get on the water, after all who knows what the summer flounder seasom will bring.
Soon enough we will all be out on the water and hopefully catching fish!
Catch em up,
Timmy T
